Invisible Character — Copy and Paste Blank Text

Need a blank character you can copy and paste? Choose a type above, leave the count at 1 and click Copy blank text. For a longer blank string, this blank text generator repeats your chosen character up to 1,000 times.

How to copy and paste an invisible character

Free to use, with no account required. Generation and counting happen in your browser. See our Privacy Policy for details.

01

Choose a character and a count

Hangul Filler is selected to start. Choose Braille Blank for another blank-looking character, Zero Width Space for usually no visible gap, or compare Ordinary Space and No-Break Space. Use 1 for a single character or enter a whole number up to 1,000.

02

Copy the blank text

Click Copy blank text. To copy manually, click or tap inside the output box to select its contents, then use your keyboard shortcut or copy menu. The box looks empty because the characters have no visible marks.

03

Check your copy, then try the target field

Paste into the test box. One generated character should show a total of 1; ten should show 10. Then paste into the name, label or message field you want to use. Save or send it and check the result there — the test box only confirms the character count.

Compare invisible characters and copy one

An invisible character is a Unicode character that produces no visible mark or looks blank. It still occupies a position in the text, and some types also take up visible width.

Hangul Filler and Braille Blank are different from ordinary spaces. Zero Width Space is a formatting character. Compare their spacing and line-break behavior below, then copy a single character to try.

“Invisible space” and “empty character” can refer to different Unicode characters. The names and code points identify exactly what you copy.

Zero width space vs. non-breaking space

Zero Width Space (U+200B) usually leaves no visible gap and can allow a line to break. No-Break Space (U+00A0) has width and normally prevents a line break between adjoining text. Both are available above. See Unicode’s explanation of layout controls.

Blank names, highlight labels and messages

The field matters as much as the app. A display name, account username, game nickname and message can each have different rules. A character that copies successfully here may still be removed or rejected elsewhere. We have not tested these examples for compatibility with specific apps or devices.

01

Blank Instagram highlight name

To try a highlight with no visible label, paste a single blank-looking character into the highlight name field, save it and reopen the highlight to check the result. Your account username is a separate field.

02

Invisible Discord name

Discord’s unique username has stricter rules than its display name or server nickname. Its username rules allow Latin letters, numbers, underscores and periods, so an invisible character is not a valid username option. Display names allow broader characters, but that does not guarantee a blank name will be accepted. Check Discord’s username and display name rules.

03

Blank messages and nicknames

Blank text contains real characters; it is not an empty message. For messages and nicknames, check whether the field allows blank-only text or just spaces within visible text. After sending or saving, check how the result appears.

Why is my invisible character not working?

01

The copy button did not work

Use the manual copy method in the output box, then paste into the test box. Check that the count matches what you generated. A matching count confirms the number of code points, but does not identify the character you pasted.

02

The app deletes it or refuses to save

The field may strip blank characters or require visible text. Check whether you are editing a username, display name or nickname. You can try a different character type, but changing types cannot guarantee that a field will accept blank text.

03

The character shows as a box

A visible box can indicate that the app or font cannot render the character as expected. Compare another type and check the result in the target app. Copying successfully and rendering as blank are separate checks.

04

The text looks the same but does not match

An extra hidden character is one possible cause. Compare character counts as a first check, but remember that equal counts do not prove two strings are identical. Different letters, punctuation or Unicode representations can also explain a mismatch.

Questions about blank text and hidden characters

Why does blank text count as a character?

Blank-looking text still contains Unicode code points. This tool counts them, including spaces and line breaks. Some emoji contain several code points, so one visible symbol can count as more than one character.

How much text can I check?

The test box accepts up to 10,000 UTF-16 code units. This input limit differs from the displayed code-point count: some emoji use more than one code unit per code point. The Paste button keeps only the first 10,000 code units, so the displayed count may not cover your full text. For longer text, check smaller sections separately.

Can this tool identify hidden characters in pasted text?

It shows the total code-point count, but does not identify unknown characters or their positions. To identify an unknown character, use a Unicode character inspector that lists code points.

How do I remove zero width spaces from text?

This tool generates blank text and counts pasted characters; it does not remove them. In an editor that supports Unicode search, find U+200B and replace it with nothing. Preview the changes first, and avoid removing other hidden characters unless you know what they do.

Is my pasted text uploaded for checking?

The generator and character counter run in your browser. These tool functions do not send your pasted text to a server. Clipboard access is used when you click Copy or Paste; if the browser blocks it, use the manual copy and paste methods.

Ready to copy your blank text?

Choose an invisible character, set the count and copy. Paste it into the test box to check the count before trying it in your app.
